What is a Coupon Train?

What is a Coupon Train?

A coupon train is a gathering of people who trade coupons; however, instead of meeting in person, it is done by mail. The Coupon Train is an envelope of coupons which travels from stop to stop. At each stop some coupons get off the train and other coupons get on the train.

How does the Coupon Train Work?

The Train Conductor (coupon train host) is the organizer of the train. To begin the coupon train the Conductor will request a "boarding pass" from "riders". The conductor will collect everyone's mailing address and will create a route for the train to stop at that will help keep it up to speed. For example, keeping the train in one province to stop at several riders before moving on to another province.

What is a Boarding Pass?

A boarding pass can vary from train to train, depending on the host.

Who are the Riders?

The riders are the people taking part in the coupon train.

How many riders are on a coupon train?

The number of riders is determined by the conductor and will be listed in the train rules.

Riders have boarded, how does the Coupon Train get rolling?

Once the conductor has received all the riders boarding passes and has created a route; the conductor will mail out a large envelope of coupons to the first rider. The first rider will take out some coupons and will put the same number of coupons back into the envelope. Then they will ship to the second rider. This carries on until the train eventually arrives back to the conductor. Some conductors will ask each rider to update when the train has arrived and when it has left the station.
